Places of power have existed in culture and lore since human beings began to explore spirituality.
Upon some of these spots, they created temples and shrines. Some, they pilgrimaged to in order to absorb the power that naturally emulated from the earth.
Even today, as most human beings have lost touch with their base, primal, naturalistic instinct to be among the earth's wholesome environment, the post-modern religious world still holds many spots on earth as sacred.
Holy places, of course, existed prior to the "monotheistic reign of terror," that would go on to destroy ancient temples and texts and, with it, the wisdom they held.
Stonehenge for the Celts, the Black Hills for the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota, Mount Sanai was sacred in the early Jewish faith (and still is for some practitioners), Delphi for the ancient Greeks and the list goes on, and on.
If you were to stop someone at a bus stop and ask them "What is your holy place of power?" most would, presumably, scoff or reference a man-made facility. A Church or a compound inhabited by people that are sure Lizard Jesus will soon arrive and melt the face of all non-believers with his shredtastic and, quite frankly, tasty jams.
However, they would be fools to disregard their own veneration of the natural world around them. People are drawn to these places of power without ever even understanding why.
The hiking trail that takes you away from humanity and places you in nature's core. The shore of one of the mighty oceans. Nestled in the heart of mountains. Standing knee deep in a stream. Gazing over a vast and broad desert. Submerged in a hot spring.
These are places that people are drawn to for a reason. They are inhabited by countless spirits. Spirits that have existed long before man ever came to be moved by the beauty.
My belief is simple: When you visit those places of power, show these spirits the appropriate respect, you will be LOANED many powers and abilities.
Sometimes it may be as simple as a calming effect on your soul. Sometimes, it will lift the negative spirits that inhabit your being and remove them from your psyche. Sometimes the power can be much greater.
It takes an understanding of how to appropriately respect the spirits that dwell in those places to gain an even greater power. The proper adulation, sacrifice, and intention are the keys to tapping into the resources of these places of power.
The most important of these traits being the intention.
There are times when one can fool themselves into believing they have a pure intention, when, in reality, if they pressed themselves, they would know that there are underlying motives.
The spirits of these places of power see far beyond your simplistic grasp of your disposition. They know what is pure and noble inside of you and they know when the power you seek is for selfish reasons.
That's not to say that there aren't times in which the Spirit may grant you power even with an egocentric heart. In order for anything of the sort to take place, you must be honest. You cannot be disingenuous and attempt to "dupe" the spirits. It just won't work. Come on guy, their ancient spirits... I mean... come on.
I'm not here to explain to you the proper way to approach a place of power or how to harness that power. I'm here to exalt such places.
I'm here to be the little voice that reminds you on a hike, you are among ancient spirits. That vibration you feel in your soul isn't just from the natural beauty.
I'm here to tell you to get out of these suburban prisons designed to keep us in line and disconnected from our greater spiritual purpose. Go to the mountains. Go to the sea. Go to the desert. Go to the rivers. Go to your brothers and sisters that grow from the earth. Your family that scampers up the trees or swims around your feet.
You will be welcomed home. You will be at rest upon the bosom of mother earth. And there, we may all find peace.
